The Providence Plantation
Business Forum
This group collectively encourages financial support from small
and medium sized businesses and corporations. These businesses may make gifts
at one of three possible levels of unrestricted support: $300, $600 and $1,200 and receive special benefits based on the level
of giving. The three levels are identified by three circles which are named for
three 18th century plantation owners of area frontier fame.
The George Washington Circle
A $1,200 Donation
It's a historical fact that much of the personal, military, and political growth
that our first president experienced was achieved in our area. Even his area real estate acquisitions were, in a sense, an
extension of his Virginia plantation at Mount Vernon.
Business members of
this circle, who choose to honor George Washington and his rich association with our area, make an annual donation of $1200
to the Providence Plantation Fund. They enjoy the following benefits:
-Priority status and
discounts for all donor business advertising placed in Providence Plantation's literature for the general public.
-Special invitation
to our summer wine and cheese parties with 18th century entertainment, and to converse with George Washington when he visits
the Plantation.
-Tour information
provided on all significant historic sites in 18th century Western Pennsylvania.
-Documented information
on all George Washington's known activities on our frontier region (spending more time here than in Williamsburg, Virginia).
-The use of the plantation
grounds for a company picnic or other functions.
The Christopher
Gist Fund
A $600 Donation
Based on the historical
record, Christopher Gist may have been the first settler in our area. His plantation was located at modern Mount Braddack
near Connellsville, Pa. He brought other families in his settlement, after he served as explorer and surveyor of Ohio Company
of Virginia and as George Washington's scout in the latter's mission to expel the /French from what he believed to be territory
within the British Colony of Virginia.
Businesses who wish
to honor the first plantation owner in our area, make an annual donation of $600 and receive the following benefits:
-Discounts for all
donor business advertising placed in Providence Plantation's literature for the general public.
-Special invitation
to our summer wine and cheese parties with eighteenth century entertainment and converse with Christopher Gist and his personal
servant "boy” when they visit the Plantation.
-Tour information
provided on all historic sites in 18th century Western Pennsylvania.
-Documented information
on all of Chistopher Gist's activities on our frontier region.
The George Croghan
Circle
A $300 Donation
"The king of the traders"
was the most trusted English (Pennsylvania) trader among the Indians. His main trading post was at modern Etna (later his
plantation was enlarged to 200,000 acres), and he maintained posts throughout the Ohio Country. Clearly Croghan was the most
successful businessman on the frontier at the time.
Businesses who wish
to honor this distinguished entrepreneur and plantation owner in out area make an annual donation of $300 and receive the
following benefits:
-Priority on advertising
opportunity in Providence Plantation's literature for the general public.
-Special invitation
to our summer wine and cheese parties with eighteenth century entertainment and converse with George Croghan about his many
business and other experiences when he visits the Plantation.
-Tour information
provided on all historic sites in 18th century Western Pennsylvania.
-Documented information
on all activities of George Croghan on the frontier.
